BEAUTIFUL

"I'm not crazy, I'm just a black woman who's super smart and who can't be bribed.
I'm not a machine."

Urb Magazine 16Th Anniversary Issue. Different aspects of her story. With nearly 50 million albums sold around the world, Lauryn Hill remains an inspiration and enigma-and as one writer found out, these days, she's as elusive as ever.
Def worth picking up!

Temp One Benefit

Last night we headed to the Temp One Exhibition in LA, in honor of a Los Angeles native graffiti artist who is struggling in the hospital. It was pretty amazing to see the whole LA community come together, donating, and artist from all over Cali donated amazing pieces.

Unfortunately we ran late and missed the opening reception to the Heart Throb gallery which held Miss Van and other female artist. But we have until April too check it out, and so should you!

Hand It Ova!

In case you didn't know, Michael Jackson is a glorified GOD in Japan. The King of Pop arrived in Narita, Japan on March 4th, where he held a "Fan Appreciation" party later in the evening. Jackson invited a small amount of "privileged" (in his words) fans to attend a gathering where the attendees could pay $3,500 to shake his hand and have 30-seconds with the pop star. Chump change, right? Is it just me or is that absolutely ludicrous?!...yet sort of fascinating. Reporters speculate Jackson is holding these parties in an attempt to crawl out of his financial plummet. Peep this video of Jackson's airport arrival and everyone in the airport having a huge orgasm over it:

And now...a throwback of my ALL TIME FAVORITE music video. I know, he's a tad off, but gawd I love this man. Enjoy!

Happy Hour

After the late night meeting with the girls on Thursday, we rendezvous @ at Cha Cha Lounge in Silverlake. While the rest of the girls surrounded the bar, Ash and I flocked to the photo booth. Des encountered Chloe Sevigny that night, and Kristen Dunst last week. I never saw them, I guess we're too busy stuffing water drenched dollar bills in the booth.

Goodbye Winter Hello Spring

L.A. certainly has it's perks, you can drive 45 minutes west to Venice beach or drive an hour and a half East towards the snowy mountains. Weird, but very normal due to the fact that Los Angles has amazing weather all year round, plus global warming is in effect too :( I went up to Mountain High in Wrightwood on Tuesday for a quick last minute run before all the snow turned into water. A 5-year season veteran and I was still anxious/nervous to hit up the rails and boxes. I had a strong reminiscent feeling when I got on the lifts, because I spent my whole 2005 winter on that mountain.
Next season it's on.

The Roller Box
Broke that thumb nail! Not due to snowboarding.

Hotties.

I hit up the long Box but jumped off in the middle! lol

MARCH is WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH.

Today is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY and this month is WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH! Just knowing that, I feel a little more whole because women, all over the world, have contributed lots to the world and society and it is great knowing that we can have a special day, as well as month (in the US) to commemorate our importance -- even though we know we are very important 365 24/7. Don't take this wrong dudes, we ain't being sexist, because we know we need you as well, so celebrate this day and month with us and remember how much women have done for you -- mothers, daughters, sisters, teachers, doctors, designers, models, inventors, and what a man can do a woman can. Cheers to pussy power!

"IWD is now an official holiday in Armenia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. The tradition sees men honoring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men.

However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices. And so the tone and nature of IWD has, for the past few years, moved from being a reminder about the negatives to a celebration of the positives.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. While there are many large-scale initiatives, a rich and diverse fabric of local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Many global corporations have also started to more actively support IWD by running their own internal events and through supporting external ones. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google even changes its logo on its global search pages. Corporations like HSBC host the UK's largest and longest running IWD event delivered by women's company Aurora. Last year Nortel sponsored IWD activities in over 20 countries and thousands of women participated. Nortel continues to connect its global workforce though a coordinated program of high-level IWD activity, as does Accenture both virtually and offline. Accenture supports more than 2,000 of its employees to participate in its International Women's Day activities that include leadership development sessions, career workshops and corporate citizenship events held across six continents - in eight cities in the United States and in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, South Africa and the UK. Accenture also coordinated am IWD webcast featuring stories about Accenture women worldwide that ran uninterrupted for 30 hours across 11 time zones via Accenture's intranet. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status. The United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.

So make a difference, think globally and act locally !! Make everyday International Women's Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding."

If that got you a little pumped up and you want to geek out on some more women's intellect and history check out a bunch of Women's History links along with famous firsts by American women and notable biographies of women from all walks of life.

Rest In Power.

"Ruff Draft" Official Listening Party: I attended one of the many Dilla tributes recently and the energy of the room was so intense, passionate and real. There's a difference between listening to Dilla's tracks on your Ipod and hearing this man's art around 300 other fans and Dilla's loved ones. DEFINITELY worth the trip.

Boy Wonder of the Week:

Meet Soy: our boy wonder of the week. This 24 year old who resides in L.A. can kick a beat on the drums, d.j., and can even cook! (Come on, ladies). Beyond that, he is an amazing photographer. Yesterday Brownbabies spent the day with Soy for our photoshoot (which will be apart of the upcoming site re-vamp). This blog is to thank Soy for understanding our intentions and capturing each of us in our essence. (Which is a whole lot better than Laura's art direction, "Des...look dead. Yeah, perfect!" hahaha). Please take a peep at the aesthetic magic this dude can work up on his site: www.alexrapada.com

Ay hoe!

Singer Kelis was arrested early Friday morning in Miami Beach after screaming racial obscenities at two female police officers who were posing as prostitutes. Damn. She's bossy!

The officers were working an undercover operation in South Beach, when cops say Kelis started screaming racial slurs at the women. She continued screaming and rushed toward them, and had to be restrained by friends, a police report said. According to the report, Kelis' "actions caused people walking by to stop and form a crowd. The sidewalk was blocked by the disturbance, causing people to walk in the street and causing traffic to stop."

HA! i can just picture her now..all drunk walking in her balenciaga high heels, with her girls! Saying "Ay hoe!"
Poor Kelis..hope Nas bailed her ass out!

Heart Throb - March 10th thru April 7th

Hey Ladies, I know you have an inkering for some great art, and what is better than great art by great female artists? All three artists are quite exceptional and bring you some of their pieces @ the Merry Karnowsky Gallery starting March 10th where their opening reception will be held, as well as their artwork for almost a full month. Come out and represent -- art shows are great because they provide you with a lot of inspiration and motivation to create, no matter what medium you are using. Miss Van is definitely a BB$ favorite, but Junko and Aiko are amazing female artists. If you want to get a heads up here are their links to their websites:

See you there.

Help save Darfur

Darfur has been saturated in a deadly conflict for over three years. At least 400,000 people have been killed; more than 2 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes and now live in displaced-persons camps in Sudan or in refugee camps in neighboring Chad; and more than 3.5 million men, women, and children are completely reliant on international aid for survival. Not since the Rwandan genocide of 1994 has the world seen such a calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter.

This extremely harsh issue has been burning in my mind for a few months now, I've donated money here and there, but actually coming together as a community would be a great project to help fund money to the genocide in Africa. Hopefully this upcoming year the BB$ crew can organize a fun and productive way to fund money to these people in desperate need. If you would like to donate to these organizations please check out.
